Dental filings are used to restore teeth once decay has been removed. Dental fillings can be made from several materials, such as silver amalgam, gold, porcelain, and composite (tooth colored resin). Our office, the majority of the time, will use composite to restore our patients' teeth. It is important to fill decayed teeth (cavities) to prevent further decay. Decay is detected in a few ways, including your dental exam, laser sensor (diagnodent), and radiographs. Your bi-annual check-ups are necessary to help catch this decay early, so the restoration of your natural tooth can be taken care of before extreme decay occurs and more than just a filling is required.
